Mystery Reader!


Mary Turner, a second grade student, came to be a Mystery Reader in our class.  She read a book called The Night I Followed My Dog.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the book and it was wonderful for me to have one of my former students come back to visit!

Fish and Sea Creature Writing


Each of the children picked a fish or sea creature to research!









Bird Research


After reading several books on birds in general, the children wrote facts about the characteristics of a bird.  The children used the website www.worldbookonline.com, clicked on the "Kids" section, and chose a bird to research.  The children used post it notes to gather and organize their facts into a paragraph.  The children also used books to find additional information and to help with their illustrations.


























Eating Like Birds


The children are eating their snack like birds in these pictures.  They really enjoyed using their "beaks" to eat and having to manage without using their hands!














Reptiles




We read and wrote about reptiles.  The children also made turtles and painted coral snakes.  There are five types of reptiles.  Look below at the ideas we brainstormed to help with our independent writing:
